Presentation of the Waste Management Plan in Cajetina

Presentation of the Waste Management Plan in Cajetina

From September 17 to 19, 2019, under the Program "Support to Local self-governments in Serbia on the Road to the EU - Second Phase" funded by the Government of Sweden, PUC Zlatibor presented a shortened version of the Local Waste Management Plan (WMP) on the territory of the Municipality of Cajetina for the period from 2019 to 2028 to all its employees in the municipal administration.

The plan contains key information on how to introduce primary waste selection in this municipality. The presentation provided an outline of the work plan, objectives in the WMP, timeframe, proposals on how to finance it, as well as Swedish experiences and ways of working in this process. Swedish experts at the Recycling Center Jevle Johan Englund and Pele Halberg talked about the last topic, and about the best way to stimulate citizens for better implementation of the waste management system. Also, the ways in which PUC and the municipality will strengthen their organizational capacities in the forthcoming period were presented.

One of the key innovations in the process is not only the way in which the WMP is drafted, but the shift of focus to citizens, i.e. service users. In the coming period, the Municipality of Cajetina will also conduct a survey on satisfaction of utility users, in order to further improve their work. The Mayor of Cajetina, Milan Stamatovic, as one of the key actors in the Plan drafting process, announced that it would be one of the priorities of the municipality in the coming period.
