LADDER - Local Authorities as Drivers for Development Education and Awareness Raising

Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities is a partner in the three-year project LADDER that involved 26 partners and 20 associate members from 18 EU and 17 non EU countries. The main leader of the project is ALDA European Association for Local Democracy, the project is financially supported by Europe Aid.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of local authorities to implement EU DEAR policies, but also increase the cooperation of the EU with its neighbours. In order to achieve this, identified the following specific objectives:

  1. strengthen the capacity of associations of local authorities (LAs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) to act in a sustainable way as drivers for development, fostering their role of multipliers within their countries, communities and networks,
  2. inform, raise awareness and engage citizens in global issues, global interdependency and development education
  3. develop & reinforce the cooperation between LAs and CSOs, to lead toward winning synergies
  4. Improve DEAR methods in non-formal education system, through the development of new and innovative methods and tools addressed to a wide range of stakeholders (including educators, civil servants, NGOs, youth leaders etc.).

During the project different thematic and regional Working Groups would be established and series of capacity building seminars & trainings, exchange meetings, conferences and events are foreseen to take place at international, national and local level.
