PROJECT TITLE: Supporting the Roma population in the Municipality of Veliko Gradište
VALUE: EUR 55,855
DURATION: 12 months

BENEFICIARIES: 80 members of the Roma community in the territory of Veliko Gradiste, NGOs in Veliko Gradiste, local administration of Veliko Gradiste and its staff, public institutions of Veliko Gradiste, members of cultural institutions and communities who will be directly involved in working with the Roma community on the implementation of the program promoting Roma culture.
The specific objectives of the project are to increase the capacity of key actors and media in the local community to implement anti-discrimination measures, to raise awareness among the Roma community in Veliko Gradiste (focus on Roma women) about different forms of discrimination and available support in anti-discrimination measures, as well as to include Roma in the community through the promotion of Roma culture and tradition.
Awareness of key stkaholders in the local community (local self-government, public institutions, public enterprises, NGOs, and media) about discrimination against the Roma population will be raised through a series of trainings organized by selected trainers. The project plans three two-day training sessions for this target group.
The project will raise awareness about the Roma community in Veliko Gradiste, with a focus on Roma women, about different forms of discrimination and available support in anti-discrimination measures. According to various studies, as well as the annual report of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Roma remain the most discriminated population in the territory of Serbia. The same report shows that Roma women are one of the most vulnerable groups, which is indicated by the "double discrimination" they face - discrimination in society, but also within the family, based on gender and nationality discrimination. For this reason, the project plans to involve 80 Roma (40 men, 40 women) in 3 two-day trainings where they will be introduced to the basics of the Anti-Discrimination Strategy and different types of discrimination, as well as instructions on how to recognize discrimination. They will also be taught about their rights and how to achieve them in general, and especially when it comes to discrimination. In this sense, practical workshops on how to recognize discrimination, how to write a complaint and who to contact, where to seek help, etc., will be held for the Roma population by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and her team members.
The project plans to include Roma in the community through the promotion of Roma culture and tradition. As part of the activities, a Program of Roma Cultural Events and a Roma Inclusion Program with an action plan are planned.
