City of Sremska Mitrovica -"Fostering social inclusion of people with disabilities in Sremska Mitrovica” project

 City of Sremska Mitrovica

PROJECT TITLE: Fostering social inclusion of people with disabilities in Sremska Mitrovica

VALUE: EUR 135,025

DURATION: 12 months

PARTNER: Popović School for Primary and Secondary Education “Radivoj Popović“ in Sremska Mitrovica

BENEFICIARIES: 35 children, youth, and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities who are users of the "SUNCE Day Care for Children, Youth, and Adults with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities", employees, social care professionals working in the Day Care "SUNCE", families/guardians of persons who are users of the Day Care "SUNCE"

The main focus of the project is the improvement of the social protection system at the local level, and the enhancement and provision of already existing standardized social protection services - day care for persons with disabilities.  The City of Sremska Mitrovica supported the provision of three community-based social services (CBSS) in Sremska Mitrovica at the Radivoj Popović School for Primary and Secondary Education in Sremska Mitrovica.  The corresponding school is a special education school verified to provide CBSS since 2017 for implementing an inclusive approach through education, social protection, and health care.  One of the CBSS provided by the co-applicant is the "SUNCE Day Care for Children, Youth, and Adults with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities". The City of Sremska Mitrovica fully finances this CBSS since its establishment (currently for 35 persons with disabilities).

The project envisages the improvement of the existing CBSS "SUNCE Day Care for Children, Youth, and Adults with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities", both in terms of the number of beneficiaries (9 new beneficiaries) and the spectrum of activities to be provided in the day care, thus supporting the social inclusion of the concerned group and ensuring access to their rights in terms of family life support and natural environment, and preventing the potential entry of beneficiaries into residential institutions.  Additionally, it strengthens the capacities of family members to provide better support and social inclusion for their vulnerable members, as well as professionals and local authorities to better provide, manage, and monitor the CBSS in the future.  Furthermore, an action plan/guidelines for the effective implementation of the CBSS portfolio for persons with disabilities will be developed to determine the direction for further improvement of social protection services in Sremska Mitrovica.
